With my Jesse Tree Advent Calendar.
And better still is that I finished it [not before the beginning of Advent but] before the 1st!

For the pockets, I embroidered the numbers on light blue squares.
This took quite a bit of time, but I think it was worth it.
Then, I backed the blue squares with more white felt.
I wasn't planning on this step, but it turned out much better, so I'm pleased with it.
phew... 24 squares later...
I spaced the squares on my red felt for the banner
Note: I got mine from the remnant pile at the fabric store. You need a good amount of it, and the felt by the yard is usually nice and thick, so I'm hoping that it will wear well.
I pinned them all in place, double-checked that I had them in numerical order since my brain has turned to much, and sewed the left, bottom, and right to make a pocket.
Next, I placed my ornaments on some green felt and cut ouf the tree around them.
I marked spots for my bottons and sewed those on....
I found a scrap of brown felt for the trunk...
Then pinned the trunk and the tree on the banner in place.
I hand-sewed them on with matching threads.
I sewed the edges (about a 1/2 inch seam allowance) on the left, right and bottom,
and sewed the top, leaving an inch so I could put the dowel through.
The dowel was the only thing that I didn't have on hand, but it was 99 cents so I didn't feel so badly about it.
I sawed off one end to shorten it to the right length, drilled a hole in each side and threaded matching ribbon through, and done!
Put my ornaments inside...
and it's finished!
Now, we're just waiting for tomorrow to begin the countdown!
But for a sneak peek...
I'm pretty psyched.
If anyone would like my exact dimensions for the banner or some templates for the ornaments, I would be happy to provide them
(with the condition that it probably won't happen until I get more Christmas presents finished)
Just leave me a comment below, and I can post them for you. :)
Happy Advent, everyone!

Happy Advent, everyone!
Hey skin, this is so great! If you don't mind, I might use one of these photos for a parish event that we're advertising. Someone just asked me tonight if I could find a good picture of a Jesse tree where you see all the ornaments, and of course I thought of this.
ReplyDeleteSo will these end up in your Etsy shop? I would think they'd be expensive, with all the work you put into it, but the chances of me making one are so slim, I'd probably just pay you for it.
I'm emailing a better picture for you.
ReplyDeleteAlso, hoping to have one or so up in the Etsy shop for next Advent, so I'll let you know when I get another one completed. :)
Umm yeah- that is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou need will need to make 2 of those for your Etsy shop for next advent or I will be fighting Meg Stout for it. :)
You are so talented

Beautiful!!!! I want to start making this NOW and it's January 19th. Such a great job!
ReplyDeleteI would love the dimensions.
ReplyDeleteHi! I know this is kind of late (actually, early for next year...) but I was hoping you could send me the dimensions and possibly templates as well. This is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhere could I get the templates for the ornaments? I'm planning to make this as a wedding gift for a couple who already has everything house-related. But no Christmas stuff!
ReplyDeleteHi Carina! I don't have templates jut yet, but am planning on making them late summer/fall for those wanting one for this Christmas. Thanks!
DeleteHi. Wondering if I could get the dimensions for this project?
ReplyDeleteIts beautiful- can't wait to start working on my own.
Hi Karen! I can't give exact dimensions since it's in storage right now. I am hoping to get directions and a template together at some point for the banner and the ornaments. If I had to guess, I would say that the banner is about 2.5 feet by 3.5 to 4 feet. I just layed out a huge piece of red felt and placed all my pocket squares and tree on top to determine the overall size. The ornaments are about 3" in diameter. Hope that helps! would love to see pictures of your finished product!
DeleteThanks! And do you embroider around all the ornaments, or did you do any of that with a machine? I will definitly post a picture when I'm done...I'm done all the pockets with numbers and starting on the ornaments now!
DeleteJust checking in to see if you were still thinking about offering templates. I would love to do this for the holiday this year.
ReplyDeleteHi Meg. You are so talented! Are you still considering posting the templates? I would love to be able to make these for this year.

ReplyDeleteI would love the templates for the ornaments if you are still offering them.I love this idea and would love to use if for my preschool class and for my grandkids. It will probably take me from now to Thanksgiving to make it. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteI realize that it has been a few years, but are your templates still available. I am looking to make Jesse Trees with a home-school group Bible Study.
